When you set off to travel, you’ll invariably meet dozens of unique, cool and very interesting people. In saying that, you’ll also meet people who are stock characters, and seem to be the same everywhere you go.
Below is a short guide to a few of the many different types of people you’ll meet on the travel road:
The Fool
These are the happy-go-lucky people and are very friendly. With an abundance of crazy stories to tell, you’ll be left with your mouth open. Some of these people really leave their common sense at home when they travel.
The Person Who’s afraid of everything
This person will shake your hand while holding a bottle of hand sanitizer in the other hand. They research their trip by looking at all the possible dangers on the road and always travel with an exaggerated sense of caution. These people are also known as first aid medics, as they’ve a small pharmacy with them at all times.
The Professional Traveler
This person is on the road for literally years! You’re most likely to find this kind of traveler in Pai Thailand wearing Thai fisherman pants – where it’s a very popular location for long term hobos. Their goal in life is probably to travel to every country in the world while experiencing the culture as much as they possibly can.
The person who never leaves the hostel
You’ll definitely bump into this person if you stay in a few hostels along the route. He/she always seems to be stuck in the same chair in the communal area and more than likely staring at the computer screen or reading a book. They do anything but set foot outside the hostel it would appear.
The Drunk
The sole reason why this person is traveling is to get drunk 24/7. While this may not always be the case, it’s definitely high on their priority list. You’ll usually see them at every bar you frequent and they’re always moaning about their hangover the following morning. Party animals by nature, they can be a lot of fun to be around – for a short period of time!
Mr.Cool
This person will have some of the best stories of adventure you’ll have ever heard. They’re stories will be inspiring, funny and motivating and will have everyone in the room listening with intent.
The Odd Couple
This may be actually be a “couple” as such, but rather two people that are traveling together that you wouldn’t have thought would get along. For example, a shy guy traveling with a really extroverted, and charismatic person. When you meet these people, your faith in humanity will be restored somewhat as you realize that we can all get along if we want to.
If you travel for a long time, you’ll definitely bump into some of these people that we’ve talked about above. In addition to these, you will also meet a plethora of other types.
Travel opens your mind to a wide variety of cultures, races and events. Treat it like an education and you’ll be all the richer for it.
