Yellowstone, Riverside, Grotto, Geysers

Riverside Geyser is one of our favorites. The interval between eruptions is usually 5 -1/2 to 7 hours, the eruption height is about 75 feet and its duration is about 1/2 hour. Yes I know you can’t see the actual geyser erupting in this photo, but please find the Riverside Geyser on your next visit.
About the most interesting of our several visits to Yellowstone occurred in mid-winter. A day or so earlier we had spent the night at Hot Springs, Idaho, with temperatures in the range of minus 20 degrees. The next morning we had to have our automobile towed to a garage so they could warm up the Los Angeles 30-weight oil — no way would the car start on its own — then fill it with cold weather 10-weight oil.
We toured Yellowstone Park in a twelve passenger Snowcat, there were no cars allowed. The gasoline station at the Visitors Center was open to supply fuel for the hundreds of Snowmobiles that traveled on the roads. In the space between the spectators and the Old Faithful Geyser, elk and bison pawed at the snow to find grass to eat. The sight of geysers spewing boiling water in the winter weather, was sure different from a summertime visit. There were swans swimming in the river, where geysers had heated the water.
=============

The duration of the eruption of the Grotto Geyser can be anywhere from one hour to 26+ hours. Grotto's interval depends on the duration of the previous eruption.
