Vignettes from Jim and Emmy's years of travel

Luxembourg, Roman Ruins

Ruin, Lux.jpg

In Luxembourg, not far from the German border, we followed a sign to some “Roman digs” just a couple of thousand years old, and right out there in the middle of nowhere. That is just so different from in the US. Trier, Germany, the Roman headquarters for a few hundred years is just a few miles away, so there are dozens of other places here and there, in Luxembourg and in this part of Germany, where more ancient ruins could be found.

Why do they continue to dig; when is there an end to all the digging; there must be a better way to spend their money. But we will continue to visit any and all ancient ruins we can find.

One day (in this or a nearby dig) the man mowing the lawn insisted that his gasoline engine powered mower had just been retrieved from deep in the ancient ruin, and the mower was a “Julius Caesar” model, still in excellent condition.
