1985 Renault RV

(2 photos)
This is a photo of our 1985 Renault RV, that served as a wonderful "home" for visits to Europe in 1988 and 1989. A beautiful mountain is seen in the distance. For the months between our visits, the RV was parked in a farmer's barn, not far from where Emmy's cousins live.
In 1989, at Brandisi, Italy, when we boarded the SS Valentino, the elevator took the Renault RV, with us inside, to the top deck where we parked at the port rail, and enjoyed our slowly-rolling, slightly-pitching campsite as the ship sailed the Adriatic, past Greek Islands, to the city of Patra. We fixed our meals, and spent the night in this campsite to remember, the most unusual we have enjoyed. It transcended our previous selections.

Well, it was either 1988 or '89, but since we drove 8,400 miles in 8 countries in 1988, 8,700 miles in 12 countries in 1989, and crossed international borders over 50 times during a total of 245 days in Europe, I can’t vouch for the name of this building, or the country.
We spent 147 nights sleeping in the RV, and ate several hundred meals that were prepared in the RV kitchen. It obviously served as our transportation while we traveled those 17,000 miles, as well as serving as our "rental car" during the many days and nights we spent in the homes of Emmy's cousins.
If you consider the purchase price of the RV (plus a tire in Greece, another in France, and a small repair here and there), minus what we sold it for, the vehicle must have cost all of $13 for each day we spent in Europe those two year. If I add the cost for fuel and campsites, maybe it grows to $30 per day, plus a few dollars for groceries. Not bad for transportation, lodging and meals in all those fascinating places.
