Invitation To Germany, Vignettes-0
Forward
As you might imagine, the owner or a clerk in a bakery or a grocery store is thrilled to “meet” an American, a waiter and the bell-hop are thrilled to get a tip.
Travel by RV provides the ultimate freedom in our itinerary. Turn here, explore there, with little concern for where we will be tonight or tomorrow. For us, clothes on a hanger, goodies in the refrigerator, and our own toilet and shower, are the final seal of approval for RV travel.
In travel, as in life — different strokes for different folks. We don’t say that our way is the only, the best, or even an acceptable way to travel, for anyone but us. When we travel, we know it’s “their home,” we’re visitors, and if we don’t like it, we can leave. We’re there to learn about “their country and way of life,” we’re not there to change anything, and we try not to brag that our way is obviously best.
Introduction
A vacation trip to Germany can be a trip through many different settings, representing many periods of history. Scenery, architecture, and the ambiance of the towns and villages, all change from one section of the country to another
We have explored Germany extensively on each of our nine trips to Europe. Germany shares borders with nine other countries, (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland, The Netherlands, and Poland) and we have crossed those borders more than a hundred times.
Chapter 1 Frankfurt Area
(Frankfurt to Bad Kreuznach)
Frankfurt … a fascinating vacation can be enjoyed within fifty to seventy-five miles of this airport. Select a hotel or a Zimmer Frei (… Bed & Breakfast) for a few days … take day-trips
Emmy’s Cousin Klaus and his wife Helga live in Heusenstamm, a few miles southeast of Frankfurt. Many times our first familiar sight in Europe is the lovely Helga, who usually plays hooky from her office and comes to meet us
