Lauterbrunen

This favorite photo was taken just south of Lauterbrunen, Switzerland. In the years since we took the picture, a building has been constructed where the hay stacks were, and grown trees now block the view of the church steeple.

In the far distance at the cliff on the right, the first of four cable cars to the Schilthorn climbs from Stechelberg, past waterfalls on sheer mountain walls to Mürren, then Birg, then on to Piz Gloria, to a round building (then under construction) where the James Bond movie “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was filmed. Later, when the building was completed, a slowly revolving restaurant was included on this nearly 10,000 feet high mountain top.

The view from the patio is reported to be one of the most impressive anywhere, but with the cloud cover the day we visited, from the patio we could almost see the building.

And this is what it looked like, from a slightly different angle, a few years later.
