Strasbourg, La Place des Halles

(2 photos)
Strasbourg’s beautiful indoor shopping mall, La Place des Halles, located just north of downtown, is designed like malls in the US, containing everything from fashion to grocery stores, with a McDonald’s Restaurant and about 130 other establishments.
================
Inside the mall is a very complicated astronomical clock of some kind. We have no information about this clock, but maybe there is some connection to the forty feet high astronomical clock (built in 1354), located in the Strasbourg Cathedral. That clock has a perpetual calendar, and with precision on the order of one-hundredth part of a million, it keeps track of the movement of five planets and the earth.
Each anniversary we eat in a restaurant where neither of us has ever eaten before, so for our 44th we ate at the “Strasbourg Cafeteria.” We find similar establishments the best place to eat in Paris, Rome, Prague, London, in Venice, and all those beautiful cities that have street scenes far more engrossing than the inside of any restaurant. An order of French Fries here, a piece of fruit there, a very special loaf of bread from a Tunisian bakery in Strasbourg, topped by an ice cream cone for desert, all eaten while we walk and walk the beautiful streets of this favorite European city.
