Strasbourg, View from Cathedral Tower

StrasbourgView.jpg
(2 photos)
I have climbed dozens of towers and spires in both the USA and in many European countries. Some I climb the second time “just because,” but the Strasbourg Cathedral tower I climb for this view, the most fantastic view from a tower that I remember. Well, I might be incllined to say the same thing about the Torre del Mangia in Siena, Italy, and even the Donauturm in Vienna, (and a dozen more), but this view is certainly unique.

The Strasbourg Cathedral is located among beautiful half-timbered buildings on all sides. It’s history is unusual in that it has changed from Protestant to Catholic and back, a couple of times over the centuries. Only the north tower has a steeple with a pointy spire, while the top of the south tower remains flat.
