Camargue, Flamingos

Camargue.jpg
The Camargue has been largely preserved in its natural state as a botanical and zoological reserve. We drove south to Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer, watching for the wild white horses and the beautiful flamingos.

Picture postcards for sale in the area all show flamingos standing in shallow pools, we saw no pictures of them flying and wondered if they could. At one place we stopped to take pictures, and sure enough, they took off and flew as a group. That was quite a sight — the black tail feathers, the beautiful coral wings, and the long, ungainly necks and legs.
