Mettlach, Alter Turm

Mett Alter Turm.jpg
An unusual octagonal edifice, the Alte Turm (Old Tower), a funeral chapel, a portion of the former church of the Sepulchre of Saint Lutwinus, has been standing for nearly 1000 years near the lake in the park behind the Abbey that is the headquarters for Villeroy & Boch. In recent years, the tower has been renovated and refreshed.

On the other side of the Abbey, a beautiful small Klosterkirche (Gothic chapel) is used by Villeroy & Boch executives, employees, and patients from the Krankenhaus (hospital) next door. The von Boch family had the chapel building moved from Wallerfangen (about twenty miles away), sometime in the late 1800s, and members of the von Boch families are buried in crypts beneath the chapel.
