Eleanor, 19-July 27 What Am I to Expect?
July 27
WHAT AM I TO EXPECT?
I wish I could know
As onward I go,
Just what I'm supposed to expect.
Then the things that I've thought
And the concepts I've brought,
Would not be totally wrecked.
Now when I am told
As new vistas unfold,
And the ground becomes rolling and hilly
"Behold the Alps Range"
That all seems so strange,
That I really am almost knocked silly.
And when I see a hill,
Topped with trees tall and still,
And am told by the people I've trusted,
"The Black Forest is here."
It all seems so queer
I can scarce get my pictures adjusted.
We had lunch by a stream
Where, bright in the gleam,
The spray arose misty and fine.
I said "Have a look
At that cute little brook."
And was told, "That's the falls of the Rhine."
Now I have a plan
Which it seems to me can,
Prevent too inflated a notion.
I'll take an ice-square
From the old Frigidaire,
And say, "That's the Antarctic Ocean."
