A WALK IN PARIS
I took a walk in Paris, assisted by my map,
Following the boulevards I'd driven on before.
Crossing on the bridges which the waves of Seine do lap
And I stopped a while in wonder at the great cathedral's door
I saw the stores of Paris, and the buildings del and hoary,
I saw the side-walk markets, and the book and flower stalls,
It was all exactly like the scenes I'd read of in a story.
I at last returned exhausted to the Hotel Lettre's halls.

TO BIARRITZ
So sleepy we hadn't our wits
We took train to approach Biarritz.
The car was as hot
As a roasting pot,
And it thundered and lightninged like fits.
July 3
BIARRITZ
This morning all was dull and drear,
But afternoon began to cheer.
For then the sun's resplendent rise,
Shone on the clumps of tamarisk.
We took a walk and climbed the rocks,
Then taking off our shoes and frocks,
We dipped into Atlantic's brine,
And came out feeling fresh and fine.
The cliffs and sandy coves and things,
Aren't quite as nice as Mrs King's.
There are, we're told by those who know,
The best that Europe has to show.
Some gambling, vaudeville and pranks,
At night we watched, for just three francs.
