Eleanor, 06-June 29 Homesick for Portland

HOMESICK FOR PORTLAND

I'd rather be in Portland,
I'd rather be in Portland,
I'd rather be in Portland,
Or Gearhart-by-the-sea.
If I couldn't be in Portland,
I'd rather be in Gearhart,
There is no other region,
Where I would like to be.

But I am touring Europe,
I am seeing Europe,
I'm seeing all of Europe,
And working at it hard.
I'm seeing all the castles,
I'm seeing all the garden,
When I'd rather be in Portland,
In my own back yard.

I wish I were in Portland,
And had a drink of water,
That didn't come in bottles.
And heard good English spoke,
Oh, well the day is coming,
When I shall be in Portland,
I hope I'll be in Portland,
Before I'm wholly broke.

MORE PARIS

We left our Paris home
For the Place Vendome,
And with many a maneuver
Our bus passed through the Louvre.

Then the sight-seeing hoard
Saw the Place de la Concorde,
And I'm sure I never shall
Forget la Place d'Etoile.

We saw a church hit by a bomb
And the glass of Notre Dame.
I liked the churches well,
And the quiet Sainte Chapelle.

And the other buildings gray.
On the Ile de la Cite'.
When our strange was almost zero
We climbed to the Trocadero.

Where before us seemed to tower
The tremendous Eiffel Tower.
Then we rode along to see
Las Palais Grand and Petit

For a little time we were
At the church of Sacré Coeur
To the Louvre they then brought us
Where we saw the Angelus.

And the Milo Venus' face,
And Nike of Samothrace.
The greatest crowds all wander
Past the smiling Giocondo.

And the face of Whistler’s mother
And about a million others.
We had seen upon the way
Quite sufficient for one day.

So we went home to prepare
To attend Follies Bergere.
