Eleanor, 00-1931 Travel Verse
by Eleanor … … (1895 — 1996)
THE TRAVEL JOURNAL OF HER 1931 TRIP TO EUROPE WAS WRITTEN IN VERSE
“Eleanor … , physicist, poet and mathematics teacher, died at a retirement home at the age of 101.
A native of Portland, Ore., and a graduate of Bryn Mawr College, she taught for many years. During World War II, she became a mass-measurement specialist for the Bureau of Standards in Washington and continued a career as a consulting physicist until she was 90.”
In 1931 Eleanor sailed to Europe on the RMS Berengaria. Cunard had named this ship for the wife of Richard I (Lion Heart). Nearly two months later, Eleanor returned on Cunard’s RMS Aquitania. It is interesting to see that nearly 100 years after each ship was launched, Google.com will find tens of thousands of stories, photos, and guest book signings, about each of those ships. The Aquitania served as a troop ship during both WW I and WW II.

We knew Eleanor for nearly forty years. She was always interested in our trips to Europe, and many years ago she gave us the original copy of her “Travel Verse.” We typed it as best we could, returned the original, and presented her with computer-printed copy.
While each page is unique, we find pages 14 and 24 to be especially interesting.
