Helen Dean Fish in “Invitation to Travel” (published in the 1930s) says, “… a spired rock emerging from the gray-blue sea — the matchless citadel of beauty, Mont-St.-Michel. You will not have another experience just like that approach, nor any thrill greater than your first walk on the ramparts … (as) the Mont rises in majesty above you.”

As may well be imagined, the view as this magnificent structure is illuminated by the rising or setting sun, is a transcendent travel highlight. Those pipe structures on the street in the foreground, are padlocked private parking space protectors.
