Chamonix

(3 photos)
One of our favorite photos is of this little church and steeple in Chamonix, shadowed by Mt. Blanc. The problem is, the photo company made one print with the snowy mountain sharp and clear, but with the church black, one with church sharp and clear and the mountain all white, and this one, a compromise. Then they lost the slide!
The mountain and the church were still there the next time we visited, but we will have to visit on a bright clear November the 18th, at twenty minutes before 10:00 AM, just after a slight dusting of snow, to be able to recreate that exact picture. That scene is not about to disappear, a one-hundred year old book we have has a photo of the church and the steeple, with the mountain in the background.

We rode the cable car to near the top of Aiguille du Midi, facing Mt. Blanc. At the top station we walked through a tunnel into the mountain, then took an elevator the rest of the way to the top and saw the most spectacular mountain panorama we have ever seen. These Alps are very sharp and pointy, with snow and glaciers to the horizon.

There are several campsites open in the area near Chamonix, and there is a lot of snow on the ground and in the surrounding mountains. The 2000W setting on the heater took care of the heating problem. We took a walk through the town this evening, a popular ski resort area.
