Pátmos, Garbage collectors

GR_Patmos_Garbage_collec.jpg

We walked around the town of Skala, the harbor town on Pátmos, and Emmy bought a hand-made belt from a nice lady. Emmy also petted the garbage pick-up “vehicles” on the Isle of Pátmos — four donkeys, with an oversupply of bags of garbage tied here and there. The donkeys were friendly, and were happy to be petted by Emmy, but then, so am I, and I’m a Republican! Then we took a taxi to near the St. John Monastery, at the top of the island.

We met friends from the ship, a German Army Colonel and his wife (who had walked up the hill), so they shared our taxi down the hill to the Cave of the Apocalypsa. A few years later we slept in our RV in the driveway of the Colonel’s home, in Buschhoven, Germany. After an excellent breakfast in their home, Peter and his wife Uli took us in their car to visit several places in their part of Germany. Can you believe it, water is still delivered in their hometown of Buschhoven, through a 2,000 year old Roman Aqueduct!

From Pátmos we sailed to Kusadasi, Turkey, then hired a taxi for a visit at the last home of the Virgin Mary, on the hill above Ephesus, then visited the ruins of the fantastic city of Ephesus.

An added piece of Trivia: Those two blue sun visors in Emmy's hand were purchased on a shopping street in Athens, Greece. I lost mine while shooting video in the blue Mosque in Istanbul. While walking on top of the wall in Dubrovnik, the wind blew Emmy's visor a block away, and far below the huge, high wall. I walked a long distance, climbed up and down many stair steps to retrieve it, and it is still in use today.
