Míkonos, Windmills

GR_Mikonos_Windmills.jpg

Located in the Cyclades, a Greek island group, Míkonos measures ten-by-seven-miles on the wind-tossed waters of the Aegean. The windmills and classic whitewashed homes form a backdrop for the sea, and the inviting beaches. It's easily the most popular island in the archipelago.

On our second visit to Míkonos, on the SS Odysseus, we were scheduled to leave at noon. At 2:00 PM they told us there’s a problem with the motor used to raise the anchor, and we will be here until they think of something. About 10:00 PM we were told the ship would leave at midnight. Now the arrival and departure times at the other scheduled stops, will be a problem. They canceled the visit to Bulgaria — and we had really wanted to visit Bulgaria.

The people at our table are enjoyable. Lukas and Beryl live on the island of Cyprus. Lukas is Dutch, and was a very successful architect in England. Beryl is English, was in the British Army and was on the staff of Lord Mountbatten, during WW II. At one time she, and several other ladies in the British Army, were on a ship that was sunk, and she was the only lady who survived. Lukas is an artist, as was his father. Lukas painted a picture of the harbor at the island of Rhodes, that he gave to us. It was later stolen from our RV, but he sent us another painting.

The other couple at our table were Greeks from Australia. His parents are Greek, but he was born in Egypt. He visited Greece for the very first time in 1974, and they tried to draft him into the Greek Army.
