Vignettes from Jim and Emmy's years of travel

Greece

Míkonos

GR_Mikonos3.jpg

At the port in Athens, we made arrangements for a cruise on the SS City of Rhodes to Míkonos and three other Greek Islands one week, and on the SS Odysseus for a visit to the Island of Míkonos a week or two later, then on to Istanbul. Míkonos is the only island we will visit on both cruises from Athens, and it’s worth a second visit, and a third, a fourth, and whatever! The countryside of Míkonos looked barren, but with all the white buildings with flowers and the little walking streets, the island really was all it is supposed to be. On the mainland of Greece, almost every building has balconies, but in Míkonos the architecture is completely different, and genuinely appealing.

Emmy looked at, and thought she wanted to buy a certain dress when we visited here, while sailing on the SS City of Rhodes. During this second visit, a couple of weeks later, she decided she didn't want that dress after all. We went back to the ship before sailing time, but then we were told there’s a problem with the motor that pulls up the anchor on the SS Odysseus, so we didn’t leave for Istanbul until late at night.
