Saarburg, Burg = Restaurant

(2 photos)
In the town of Saarburg (Saar for the river and burg for castle) where Emmy’s father Nikolaus was born and raised, a long staircase and a steep, narrow, twisty street lead to the ruin of the old castle, far above the Saar River. With a beautiful view from high above the town, this old fortress is now a restaurant called "Burg = Restaurant."
Each time we visit Saarburg, Emmy visualizes her father as a young boy, playing near the Castle ruins, swimming in the Saar, and playing along these streets that have changed little in centuries.

Below the Burg, along the river, a family-operated Glockengiesserei (bell-foundry) has produced cathedral bells for over 350 years. A cathedral bell weighing hundreds or thousands of pounds will peal in a melodious key and groups of bells are designed and cast to ring in harmony.
