Nürnberg, Frauenkirche

Located in Nürnberg’s Hauptmarkt (Main marketplace), Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is the center of attention at noon when the ornamental clock, “Männleinlaufen” (little men running), strikes twelve and the statues of seven electors move round and round to swear allegiance to the Emperor.
Ah, the frustration of the memory! We have visited inside this church on more than one occasion, and we seem to remember the beauty of the interior was unusual. The frustration is because we not only didn’t note the details in our 1500-page Travel Journal, we can’t find a detail description in any book or on the Internet, and our memory — well, we forgot! You must visit.
We have seen thousands of old buildings in a thousand cities and towns, and we think Nürnberg’s medieval stone buildings are about the most appealing of any large European city. Nürnberg’s world-renowned Christkindlesmarkt (Christmas Fair) is held in the Hauptmarkt each December.
