Heidelberg, Town View

In the splendid city of Heidelberg, situated along the Neckar River, there are numerous churches and museums, the University (1386), the Alte Brücke (Old Bridge, two white towers, with black helmets), and the Schloss (Castle1200s) spectacularly perched on the hill, from where this wonderful photo of the city was taken.

One year as we walked past the Heilig-Geist-Kirche (Heidelberg’s Holy Ghost Church), we heard the sounds of music coming from somewhere inside. We tried several doors until we finally found one unlocked, with signs that must have said KEEP OUT. But then what do we know about the German language. We pushed the door open and made sure we could get it open again from the inside before we let it close behind us. Climbed up a circular staircase, checking each gate or door — we wanted excitement, but not imprisonment! Our efforts were rewarded when at the top of the stairs, near the roof of the Heidelberg Heilig-Geist-Kirche we found a choir and orchestra rehearsing some beautiful music.
