Hameln

On the tourist literature it says, “Sagenhaftes HAMELN Rattenfängerstadt und mehr,” or “A town worth talking about, incredible Hameln, the rat-catcher-city and more.”

The Pied Piper play, called the “Die Rattenfängersage” or “The rat catcher fable” (or something like that), lasted about 1/2 hour. They had a lot of people dressed like townspeople of centuries ago, with some children dressed like children, and many children dressed (and crouched) like rats. Since we knew the story, it wasn’t hard to follow. As someone (three guesses who!) said, “Hameln, the home of the Piper and the former home of rats and kids.”
