Halle, Marketplace

The composer, George Frideric Handel, was baptized in the Marienkirche, the steeples on the left, where he later played the organ. Martin Luther preached here, and his Bible, with handwritten notes, is in the collections of church writings on display.
The huge marketplace was filled with fruit and vegetable vendors, and two or three of the Western department stores had already been opened in Halle's market square, when we visited in 1991. Huge clouds of dust, from the buildings still under restoration, spread across the market booths, covering everything in its path.
At one place next to the market area a small, but excellent jazz band, was playing very loud and very well. We bought bread at a nice bakery, and some other food items, then visited in a few of the stores. From the look on his face, one would think that Heinz did not want his picture taken.
