Dubrovnik, Close-up

YU_Dubrovnik_Close_up.jpg

On our first of three visits, we arrived in Dubrovnik at 8:00 AM, and it looked over-crowded already. We didn’t know where we were, or where we were going, so we parked our RV and looked for information. Then we discovered the city bus stop was right next to where we parked, and the bus would go right where we wanted to go. It's amazing how easy it is to learn from people we can’t even talk to.

During the two mile bus trip to the old town of Dubrovnik, we did not see one space where anyone could have parked a vehicle of any size, and the streets were jammed with vehicles looking for a place to do just that.

The old town was not too crowded with people yet, but it certainly was beautiful. The buildings and walls of Dubrovnik are made of huge blocks, and don’t appear in danger of falling down from age, but they did have a bad earthquake here in the 1600’s. We walked quite a while, then rode the cable car (built in 1969) high on the mountain overlooking Dubrovnik. Such a sight we have never seen! Later we walked on top of the wall for quite a distance, and took this photo of Dubrovnik’s roof-scape, and the flowers in the window box.
