Molfetta, Boats on Shore

I_Molfetta_Boats.jpg

Molfetta (near Bari, on Italy’s heel) looks so similar to nearby Giovinazzo, we thought they had the wrong name under the picture in the guidebook. After visiting each town, we thought Giovinazzo was more charming and picturesque than Molfetta, but the description and the pictures in the guide book seemed almost identical. Molfetta’s old district is dominated by Puglia’s largest and most imposing Romanesque cathedral, Madonna dei Martire, built on the site of a hospital that had been built for the crusaders in the 1100s.

Molfetta is one of the busiest fishing ports in Puglia, Italy’s heel. The small boats are equipped with huge propane gas lights positioned to shine into the water, so they can catch some kind of fish or other seafood, that is attracted by light.
