Corinth

We were parked on the beach near Korínthou (Corinth), Greece, one evening, when a very old man and his very old wife, went past, driving a small flock of sheep. (This photo was taken through the windshield.) The shepherd had a staff that looked very attractive, so I went after him and tried to buy it to add to my collection of canes and walking sticks. The shepherd had a hurt look on his face, hugged the staff to his breast, and wouldn't even consider selling.
I decided to follow them, and see again if I could buy the staff. The man finally called to his wife, and apparently told her to take me to their home and get a cane for me. After walking for a mile high into the hills, we arrived at a lean-to, next to a small pen for the sheep. She went in the lean-to, and finally brought out a little “nothing” cane, like a small tree limb, not at all like the one her husband carried. So, I obtained a $5 Greek cane and a $15 story!
I was able to buy two of the special shepherd's staffs, during our month in Greece. A story told elsewhere.
